Write to Your Local Council

When travelling abroad are you always amazed at the abundance of flags flying proudly from public buildings in virtually every foreign city and town? Do you admire the sense of patriotism shown by the Spanish, the French and in particular the Americans? Do you wonder why, apart from on some sporting occasions you very rarely see the cross of Saint George or the Union Jack flying in this country? Are you astounded each year when you read that some local councils refuse to fly the St. George’s flag on St. George’s Day? Don’t you think it’s time we did something about it?

Join our Campaign

At Flytheflag we are campaigning for all City and Town Councils to fly either the flag of St. George or the Union Jack outside their headquarters/town halls all year long. If you would like your council to fly your flag why don’t you write to them? To make it easy for you we have prepared a standard letter which you can COPY AND PASTE into the programme you use to send letters. Simply add the name and address of your local council and send it off. If they don’t respond after say 3 weeks send them another copy or just inform your local newspaper. If they refuse, for whatever reason, to accede to your request, again inform your local newspaper of their refusal and see what they make of it! Think about it, there’s no use just having a moan in the pub – do something about it and write to your council!

SPECIMEN LETTER TO COUNCIL

******************************************

Dear Sir,

Re: Flying our Flag

As I am sure you are aware, it is common practice worldwide for town and local councils to fly their national flag outside the town hall or other local government buildings. This, unfortunately, is not the case in this country and I note that your Council is no exception.

As a local resident I am disappointed to note that the Council flies neither the Cross of St. George nor the Union Jack. Is there any reason for this and would the Council be prepared to reconsider its policy?

Many thanks in anticipation of an early response.

Yours Faithfully,
